Clerk's Tale
  • Walter was lord of a bountiful land, liked by his people
  • he would not marry because of what might come (ll28)
  • His people disliked this, so they appointed a representative to tell him (ll35)
  • He reminds Walter that he won't always be young, and you don't know when death will hit (ll67)

The Franklin's Tale
  • A knight and lady agree to marry (ll14)
  • He swore his free will to marry her agreeing to never assume mastery over her or show jealousy (ll20)
  • She states that patience is the highest virtue, and he may not act out of vengeance or speak out of anger (ll56)
  • His name is Aviragus (ll86) and hers Dorigen (ll87)
  • He leaves for Britain to seek great honor and is gone for 2 years (ll85)
  • She becomes very distraught (ll93)
  • She sits on a cliff by her home waiting for her husband's ship, expressing her confusion to God at all that passed (ll159)
  • She asks God to keep her husband safe (ll161) she fears the rocks
  • May 6th, Dorigen is at a party in which everyone is dancing but her Auvellius, one of the best men, loves her for last 2 years, but she doesn't know (ll213)
